Wamsley Realizes Goal
"Congratulations. The deliberate, focused, and concerted effort on the part of your teachers and principal at Wamsley Elementary has paid off.” With these words, John Condie, regional support manager for the Colorado Department of Education, confirmed what the district was hoping to hear. After three years of hard work, intense focus, and extreme dedication, Wamsley Elementary School was officially removed from the state list of Title I schools in need of improvement. -more-

Dear Riverside Families,
Welcome back!  We are kicking off the new year and our second semester with a bang!  We want
to recognize those students who made significant growth on the Scholastic Reading Inventory
(SRI) at the end of first semester.  It is typical for students to make around 100 points in a year, the
following pages celebrate students who grew this much in 1 quarter! - more -

Sam Jorgensen Wins Geography Bee!

Sam Jorgensen, 8th grader at Riverside, won the National Geographic Bee at the school level on Friday, January 22, 2010. He bested a field of 30 contestants from 6th, 7th, and 8th grade in a hard-fought competition, consisting of questions on U.S. cities, continents, world history, U.S. historical geography, and cultural geography. Second place was secured by Richie Winkler, 8th grade, and Riley Bolitho, 7th grade, took third. The competition was very rigorous, and congratulations go out to all the competitors.

Sam now takes a written qualifying test, which goes to the National Geographic Society. If he scores high enough, he will compete at the state level. State finalists will compete in the National Geographic Bee in Washington DC.

Congratulations, Sam, and good luck!
